Voting by Mail

Washington State conducts all elections by mail. There is no need to go to a polling place — your ballot comes to you. Here is how the process works:

  1. 1
    Receive your ballot

Ballots are mailed to registered voters approximately 18 days before Election Day. Make sure your address is current in VoteWA.gov.

  2. 2
    Research the candidates

Read the official voters' pamphlet (mailed with or near your ballot) and explore candidate websites like this one. Check out Karen's positions on the issues.

  3. 3
    Mark and sign your ballot

Follow the instructions on the ballot carefully. Fill in the ovals completely. Sign the return envelope — your signature is verified against your voter registration. An unsigned ballot will not be counted.

  4. 4
    Return your ballot

Drop your ballot in an official drop box (no postage needed) by 8:00 PM on Election Day, or mail it with postage postmarked by Election Day. Return postage is prepaid on return envelopes in Washington State.

  5. 5
    Track your ballot

Visit VoteWA.gov to confirm your ballot was received and accepted.
